How Does Multifactor Authentication Work?
When MFA is enabled, the two-step verification works like this:
- Login to your Microsoft account with your username and password as normal.
- A notification will be instantly sent to your Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Open the app and view the notification with login details. Verify it’s you attempting to sign in.
- Tap “Approve” on the notification. This confirms your identity.
- You’ll be signed into your Microsoft account successfully with MFA protection.
Without approval on your mobile device, the login fails even with the correct password. This adds critical account security beyond standard passwords.
