What is Multifactor Authentication?
Now that you’ve installed the Microsoft Authenticator app, let’s discuss what multifactor authentication is and how it works.
Multifactor authentication (MFA) provides an extra layer of security beyond just a password when logging into accounts. It requires two or more credentials to verify your identity.
With MFA enabled via the Microsoft Authenticator app, you need to input your normal username and passwordand approve the login attempt on your mobile device.
This protects your account in case your password is compromised. The second factor (your phone’s approval) is still needed to successfully sign in. MFA prevents unauthorized account access.
